I really enjoyed the whole experience over the course of 2.5 hours at MUME. The dishes were carefully prepared and plated, with a focus on flavours, textures and colours. Each dish was unique but worked well hand in hand as a dinner course and you progressed through it. Definitely worth the visit, and I think the more casual atmosphere also helps to appeal towards a younger crowd. The cocktails were interesting, so definitely consider them to go along with your dinner course!

Everything was perfect on that night. Food was innovative and undoubtedly delicious. A great combination of western/ modern cooking techniques with touches of traditional/ locally sourced ingredients. I also ordered wine pairing with 4 glasses of wine. Every single one goes with the dish very well. A very good work from a talented sommelier. And or course staff was friendly and the service was meticulous. No wonder so many awards and recommendations, no one should miss it.

Tucked in a quiet lane in Da ‘An district, an unassuming restaurant with dim ambient lighting, brass fixtures and wooden textures, and a small bar at the entrance, is Mume. I’m specifically intrigued by their savoury cocktails, so we ordered “Croissant”, a buttery and fruity rum-based and “New York Strip”, a smokey and silky whiskey-based with frothy beef drippings. The tasting menu consists of 10 courses (2 of which are sweets and 4 are seafood). I really didn’t mind the focus on a surf menu because I am all about the “umami” and each course was delectably savoury! I also particularly like the use of Chinese cuisine ingredients such as pickled radish, preserved mustard greens, water bamboo and olives – which really amped up the flavour profile and left a very well balanced palate. The abalone and cuttlefish were my 2 favourite dishes. Definitely will come back on my next visit to Taipei!
