Ruifang District, New Taipei City｜馬納蒂 Manatee Diner (無訂位; 最後收客時間7pm)

Decided to check out this place after hearing good thing about it and we live close by. Ordered the fish and chip and a burger combo and they were delicious! They use amberjack instead of cod for the fish. With thin batter, fresh fish, great portion, it was tasty. Everything was made to order, we had to wait a bit but it was worth it. Second floor has a good view if the weather is good. Restroom is super clean and well maintained. There are parking at the side of the road or small parking lots across the street. Weekend will definitely be packed. It is a great place and we definitely enjoyed it.

Decided to try this because my husband is a fish and chips fan and would try fish and chips at restaurants if it's on the menu, and if the type of fish used is good. Seafood chowder soup: tasty with quite a bit of ingredients. A squid (小卷), and a few clams, with vegetables. I'd suggest to upgrade / add this to your main especially on a rainy day. Hot soup to satisfy your tummy. Fish and chips: chips is chunky and fried well. Crispy on the outside and soft inside. Generous serving of fries. Condiments and cutleries are self service. The fish used is interesting - Greater Amberjack. It's firm and tender. Highly recommend. Perhaps you could check with the staff what fish is used. They could have bought whatever that's available and fresh. Burger (can't remember what I ordered): mushroom with beef patty. Juicy and the serving size is filling. Bun is slightly toasted with butter. They even seared their Manatee logo on the bun! The store is runned by a couple. They put in effort to plate the food on the tray before serving. From our convo, I can feel that they are happy and take pride of their store and have passion in cooking, giving customers a warm tasty meal. There are two levels in the restaurant. Bottom level is where you order (and I guess a few seats). Top level (climb the stairs) has plenty of seats with washroom.

Manatee Diner is a hidden gem (and won’t stay hidden for long, judging by the reviews). We stopped in at random during a coastal walk and had some of the best fish and chips you can get anywhere in the world, not just Taiwan. Highly recommended
