East District, Chiayi City｜阿典師簡餐

Having been in business for 35 years, this place is another fantastic Chiayi institution. The menu focuses mainly on pork or fish, although there are other options. They take their fish pretty seriously here, and there are daily specials as well as the regular fish on the menu. I didn't have fish this time but my friend did, and he really enjoyed it. I went for the stewed pig's knuckles, which were a tender, chewy dream, if you like that sort of thing, which I do. The meals come with several vegetables and a soup, as well as rice. It really is a very filling meal in a very pleasant atmosphere that doesn't try to be fancy, but is simple and comfortable. Of course, fish and traditional Taiwanese food are the main parts of the menu, but there are beginner dishes like chicken leg and even a fried port cutlet if you are a squeamish sort of foreigner. Oh, and they make their own kimchi, and it is delicious and of excellent quality. I thought it was a little sweet for my palate, but sweet is what we like here in southern Taiwan.

I have been eating it for more than ten years and it is delicious.
