Shenkeng District, New Taipei City｜劉の臭豆腐

Woe to the other restaurants on this old street. A nearly 5 star rating is hard to believe, but believe it. The flavor of the stinky tofu has always been hard to describe beyond the usual "it tastes like it smells". However, this restaurant's flavor is distinct and the mala duck blood hotpot did not diminish the stink at all (they also serve a fried stinky tofu which I'll try another time). The rice noodles, covered with a rich yet not too salty braised pork, was QQ and forced me to chew each bite thoroughly thus coating my mouth with the flavor of the rendered pork fat. A stir fry dish with fried dough (yes,you-tiao 油條) and oysters that was surprisingly addictive and goes great with plain rice. This restaurant hits all the right spots in the 3 categories (food, service, atmosphere). But I'd also like to think other spots around are good too and I'll give those their fair shake against the king on 深坑老街.
