Xizhi District, New Taipei City｜阿米巴複合式餐廳

This restaurant/cafe is super cute, with delicious and truly unique food. Plus, the coffee is great! We stopped by on our way back from hiking up Dajianshan. It was easy to get to by bus, and is also easily walkable from the main station in Xizhi. For English speakers, the menu is well translated. I'd describe the menu as Taiwanese+Western -- kind of like "Asian fusion" but different than any I've experienced back home in the states. It's honestly a bit hard to classify, but the dishes we tried were all unique and delicious. They also have an extensive list of coffees and other drinks. We ordered four things: 1. Dongpo Pork -- of the four, the most classic Chinese dish, but absolutely delicious. It's essentially soft pork belly in a decadent brown sauce. 2. Deep-fried Boneless Chicken Thigh in Spicy and Sour Sauce -- this is a must order! It's crispy skin chicken, with a sauce that tastes of chili and lemon. Never had anything quite like this. 3. Sauteed Chicken Thigh with Truffle Sauce -- the truffle flavor is subtle. It's not like a cream sauce, but more a hint of truffle flavor on a tender piece of chicken. Really tasty. 4. Puff Pastry Soup -- It's so interesting to find a dish like this in Taiwan. According to my Taiwanese partner, this is a classic western thing in Taiwan. It's basically corn chowder covered in puff pastry. We loved it. Finally, the owners are wonderful, kind people! If you find yourself in Xizhi, I really recommend a visit.
