Taibao City, Chiayi County｜Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum

This is a beautiful museum. The outside landscape is beautiful; the museum puts a lot of effort into maintaining it. The architecture is unique and modern. I saw the main branch in Taipei a few months ago. Although the southern branch is smaller, it maintains the same quality and atmosphere as the bigger one. The smaller size means I was able to get through the whole museum in 2-3 hours. The exhibits were detailed and had offerings in Mandarin Chinese and English. The English visual audio guide is very good with lots of helpful information even though it doesn’t offer as much as the Chinese version. The museum staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Once the exhibits rotate, I would happily visit again.

Beautiful museum. A bit out of the way, but the free bus from Chiayi main station was only 30-40 mins. The exterior of the building is grand and impressive, just as is the collection inside. The audio guide has some key items explained in detail in English, but it's not as extensive as the options for Chinese explanations. The museum grounds are also lovely and can make this a full day excursion. Definitely worth the trip!

A nice place to visit if you happen to be in Chiayi. It has a nice park and the experience is relaxing while culturally enriching. Highly recommended to visit at least once! Nice shops in the basement!
