The meat was juicy and tender enough (just make sure to cook it properly), the chicken and pork was also pretty good, lastly the seafood especially the scallop was very fresh and big. The dessert wasn’t as pleasant but decent enough. Overall, the amount of food served is worth the price. The servers have pretty good attitude in terms of attentiveness, but not quite friendly. They will change your grill grates very often and serve you some carbonated drink (palette cleanser perhaps).
There are lots of spots with great reviews & reasonable price for BBQ in Taichung and Cha Liu is one of the best. It’s extremely popular, so getting a reservation is difficult even on weekdays. We couldn’t reserve for a proper time-slot for weeks, so we decided to visit earlier to beat the crowd. We were there at about 5:00pm on a Thursday and the wait wasn’t too bad, only about 5 mins. The decor is brilliant and classy with wide-spaced & lively ambiance. The staff was friendly, welcoming and served everything quickly. There is a couple of sets for 2 & 3 people and we had their Premium Beef Set for two. The set came with 7 kinds of meat, salad, seafood, veggies, rice and dessert so the portion was enough and satisfying. All the meat was fresh and high quality, so even though the seasoning was light, it’s still delicious. Our favorites were the Boneless Beef Ribs and Iberian Pork. We highly recommend their dessert, especially the shaved ice, which was refreshing with adorable plating. Overall, Cha Liu is a solid place for BBQ and the only complaint we had was the difficulty of reservation.
The appearance is just like the style of Karuizawa Group, with the same exaggerated arrangement. From the reception staff who helped arrange the location to the service staff, they were all friendly and made people happy. I think the menu design is good, there are simple A4 paper forms for ordering, and there are also exquisite menu books. There is a business lunch before 17:00 from Monday to Friday, but compared with the most basic pork set meal, there are only a few items, so people can't help but order the regular set meal. The chef's salad is sour and sweet, not like the vinegar salad in other restaurants, which is so sour that it is inedible. The marinated meat, especially the Matsusaka pig, tastes really great when grilled until golden brown. In addition, when the duck breast is roasted to medium rare or nine, it is full of juicy and surprisingly soft. Snowflake ice is a way of presenting monster ice, which makes people so happy!! This way, you don’t need to queue up for a long time. A good restaurant worth recommending!!
