Yongkang District, Tainan City｜台南幫純好茶-中華店

I stopped by today while running personal errands in 北區. I thought I had tried all of the beverage brands in Tainan so I was surprised to see a shop with such high reviews that I had not visited yet. So I drove 20 minutes during traffic jam hours to give 台南幫 a shot. The parking is very hectic as the shop is located on a very, very fast paced road. I was honked two times by scooters, and one time by a truck while slowing down to park. I felt extremely guilty illegally parking in front of the shop, but I know this is my only option, unless I park in an alley further down the street. So if you visit, please prepare yourself for an obstacle course! 5 star for the products. The drinks are fantastic. I would drive from 安平區 for this level of quality. 清茶 is well-balanced, and comparable to freshly-brewed brands like 線茶道. 綠豆冰沙 is unadulterated -- no thickeners, no additives, no creamers. 5 stars for the staff. Lactose intolerance is a mild food allergy and generally a nuisance for myself and most people of Asian-descent. The staff were happy to explain the menu and guide me to drinks that I would be comfortable with. 5 stars for the owner, also named Jerry. Jerry left the corporate world and started this journey in one of the toughest markets in Taiwan. To me, a restaurant menu represents the owner's values, and the reviews represents his resume. Jerry is swimming upstream against the market because he believes in high quality products and services. Entrepreneurs like Jerry need as much support from the community as possible. I cannot express how difficult it is to maintain high levels of quality in a market that is fiercely determined to save money at all costs.
