Da’an District, Taipei City｜強記港式小館

This is a popular Hong Kong style noodle house, offering various types of congee, lo mein noodles, and soup noodles with wonton. You can also get Hong Kong style Café drinks here. Seating inside is limited, and you may be asked to share a table with (an)other patron(s). Not a big deal: everyone’s just there to eat anyway. Decor is simple, sparse. I ordered the beef brisket lo mein, with two large dumplings (had to wait 15 minutes for those). Came to $170+70NT. The egg noodles are cooked al dente, so there’s a little bite at the end of it. The beef brisket is tender and flavorful, and they ladle it with some of the braising liquid, which helps flavor the noodles as well. The dumplings were large, and had several ingredients including prawns inside. Note that there is typically a lineup stretching outside, but most of the people are ordering takeout. It moves fast enough that I don’t bother asking if I could skip the lineup for dine-in.

This place surprised me with their well-cooked rice and the scallop xo sauce (干貝 xo 醬). They are soooo good! I ordered 三寶飯, which contains duck, chicken, and barbecued pork (叉燒). All three were delicious, but I much prefer the chicken, which was tender and well-seasoned. I'd love to try their turnip cake (蘿蔔糕) (preordered needed, takeout only) sometime!
