Yonghe District, New Taipei City｜Mentari Cafe Indomart 萌太利(印尼美食,商品)

It is the best scenario that could happen in Taipei, walking into a Indonesian toko and renewing the experience of spicy food. This store with moderate light is both a grocery store and a diner. They speak Mandarin and Malay fluently, and serve authentic,I think, Indonesian cuisine. I had fried Tempe and fried fish paste with noodle in dark vinegar ( the sour is nothing more then a hint). I feel no exotic but more a home cooked meal, the chili paste is great with fish chops ,and the Tempe are like muscled Natto, another incarnation of soybean, chewy yet crunchy from frying. I had dessert in other place though, I don’t know why.

For me, Mentari serves the best Indonesian food in Taipei. They provide individual portions of authentic Indonesian food with affordable prices. I visit this place very often to enjoy the fried chicken rice which has special sauce (sambal), spicy fried tempe (tempe geprek), and the very famous fried noodle or noodle soup from Indonesia (Indomie). For groups, they provide a large space in the basement area.

Definitely worth revisit. Great food at reasonable price. Clean, spacious and modern decor which is rarely seen in Indo restaurants here. A lot of dishes to be chosen from but pity Soto ayam was not available at that time. Was looking for kuih but sold out, should come here sooner at Tuesday and Thursday.
