Taoyuan District, Taoyuan City｜丸朝牛肉麵

The first time I went here was after a day's hard work. I was so exhausted, muscles aching, and was just ready for anything to eat. I was thinking 隨便吃, then head home, clean myself up and plop into bed. Yes, I came in here not expecting much, but their beef noodle actually took me by surprise. Not only was it tasty, but right after finishing the bowl, I felt totally rejuvenated and uplifted. Since then, I've visited this place a number of times. Their main offering is Taiwan-style 牛肉麵 (Taiwan Beef Noodle Soup, as opposed to Beef Ramen Soup). They also have side dishes costing $50 NT per plate (tofu, shrimp rolls, beef cutlets, etc.). The soup base is not as strong as 69, but I thought it was just right. If you like your soup with a strong, Chinese medicinal taste, then you might find the soup here underwhelming. But still, the meat is always tender and the noodles al dente. This is important. With the exception of another place (the one near the intersection of 春日路 and 雙峰路), I actually prefer this very simple, roadside, family-run 牛肉麵店 from the others in the surrounding areas. 老闆娘 is very lively (sorry, I'm a sucker for great customer service), and there is a granny who sits in the area watching her grandchildren do homework during the evenings. Don't forget to greet her when you do drop by.
