Passed by this place during my travels through Taitung last week and decided to stop by for a drink because the dim-lit cozy front look of the store attracted me and I thought it’ll feel nice sitting al fresco on the outside beneath the shade of the tree. Indeed. After thoughts upon leaving and hitting the road were full of regrets for not staying further for lunch. Let me tell you why. Firstly, ambience was definitely there. So was the customer service. The proprietress appeared cautious at first but after a trail of conversations down the road, she became ultra friendly. The menu was not too complicated but the food and beverages featured there appeared alluring. I had a banana shake and cheesecake. Rich, creamy, but not too sweet. The cake was so nice I ended up ordering another one. The people I was traveling with ended up ordering seconds as well so tell me from the sound of this whether the food was good or not?!! I always balance my evaluations by considering the price factor as well and surprisingly, based on the quality of what was offered, prices were quite reasonable. The toilet is in a shack behind the store but it was clean and well maintained. There were some curiosities over name of the establishment and after inquiring I was told that it was named after the father of the proprietress who took part in WWII as a member of the Takasago special commando unit in the Pacific theater. There was a small display of old photographs showing how local aboriginal tribal youths were conscripted to operate behind enemy lines then. So the restaurant had a theme. Nice! At the end, I left thinking that I will return again some day and order more from the menu to try the other delectables there. Folks, this place has my full recommendations.

Love this coffee shop! We found this place last weekend. I ordered “Dirty Latte” and it didn’t disappoint me. It was perfect on a scorching hot day.

Aloha! Thanks for sharing interesting history along with good coffee and tasty foods. Plenty of photos and books about aboriginal peoples that served in WWII, and their unfortunate story of never being able to return home. Tiramisu was awesome, same with the espresso. The toast was a perfect texture, didn’t get to try pasta but I’d go back for sure.
