Donghe Township, Taitung County｜纏記舊街東河包子

I was recommended to come here by a local. When I pulled up with my scooter for lunch, there was a long line of people. You could see them hand making the buns in the back as fast as possible to keep up with the demand. I went for only vegetarian options as I was happy that there were some. There is a pleasant shady patch of trees with lots of seating spaces to sit down at. The trees made it bearable to sit outside even in the heat of July although I noticed that many were taking heaping bags of these home. I ordered vegetable, bamboo shoot and then two sweet buns, peanut and red bean.

The sesame buns are fragrant and delicious

Pretty tasty bao and appears to be pretty popular. During the 5 minutes I was in line, several flavors kept getting sold out. I got the normal meat bun which was nicely marinated heavily with soy sauce and it was really quite good. I also tried the sesame one just for kicks, it's not really a dessert and not really savory...kinda missed the mark there. Would love to try the bamboo shoots ones if I pass by next time, wouldn't make a special trip for this though.
