Donghe Township, Taitung County｜POOZ新蘭灣柴燒窯烤披薩

Passionately handcrafted pizza wood-fired to perfection. We chanced upon this quaint place built out of a container when visiting the Dulan Sugar Factory opposite. Be sure to try the sweet flavoured pizzas such as Pineapple & Apple pizza, an ingenious twist to pizza that will surprise your palate. The corn soup was also pipingly satisfying, carefully prepared by the chef Wu herself.

This is a lovely, low key place with really tasty well-priced pizzas. We were cycling from Hualien to Taitung and arrived here by chance after an 80km day needing sustenance. The chef made the pizzas in front of us (there's a proper pizza oven) while we sat with a beer. Portions weren't huge enough for two British cyclists with big appetites so we had a smoked chicken and mushroom pizza AND a pineapple and apple dessert pizza (both absolutely delicious). Quality-price ratio is very high (from memory 240 for a pizza, 40 for a beer). We ate at around 6pm but I imagine this would be a great place for lunch. Small but perfectly-formed. Typically warm Taiwanese welcome.

If you’re looking for a break from Taiwanese style food, this is your place. Very tasty (albeit a bit small) pizzas and the place looks chic. Waiting time can be between 20-30 minutes, but worth the wait.
