West Central District, Tainan City｜泉記米行 狀元糕

This is a traditional Taiwanese dessert made from ground sweet sticky rice. This is one dessert that needs to be enjoyed while it’s hot and freshly made, so only a few stores are still willing to sell them hot. We’re lucky to walk by this rice vendor who happens to sell these delicacies in front of their store. Since they were made to order, we had to wait for two other groups before the owner took our order. But it was well worth the wait. Just the way I remembered when I had them in my childhood. A very settle sweetness and the warm fluffy texture of steamed rice cake... best of all, only NTD 90 for 6 pieces.

There is folk story about this kind of snack. At from Ching dynasty. The snack that was invented from this guy get to last and preserve here in Tainan. I had never heard of it. Made of rice with 2 flavors- sesame and peanut. Steam in. Babbitt mold. Light and delicious.
