Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan｜炎屋 (ほむらや)

Great little place off the tourist path. We were staying at the Royton in Sapporo and saw this from our room. We decided to try it as it was close to the hotel. There were no English menus but the waitress and the cook (who seemed to be the owner) knew to let us understand. The owner told us that it was a yakitori shop and suggested we go for that. The food was really good and the service was superb. We were there with our 2 year old and it was fine.

We happened to wander into this restaurant and it ended up being one of the best meals we had on our trip. There isn't an English menu, but the chef helped us order. Everything was delicious, but I'd recommend the grilled yam and the meatball stuffed with cheese.
