The owner/chef specially prepared a sashimi and fried fish that was caught by his friend. Super fresh and exquisitely made. He also made a fish karaage (which is somewhat rare). It was a hot day so we didn't have sake (which there are huge number of varieties). Even the appetizers were delicious. All in a non-descript place in middle of residential Koiwa. The only other people there on a weekday were some locals. I was the only Japanese speaker in our party, so I ended up talking to the owner a bit. Finally, that tab was less than $20 USD per person. If you want a quintessential Japanese Izakaya experience, this is it.
