Japanese is written below ↓ NOTE: I am a 31 year old, 6 year Japanese resident, African American, fluent speaker: WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE HERE IF YOU CAN SPEAK JAPANESE! Maybe bring a Japanese friend or come with basic Japanese knowledge!! In general, please do not come into restaurants/japan expecting catered service to lack of language ability because one might find themselves a bit frustrated or confused. But if we follow the general customs and understand the basics of Japanese, our meals and your experiences will be far richer in my opinion. 🤍 For example: most restaurants charge a table charge and provide you with a small dish in return called “Otoshi” (not a good name, just the name for “the small food you get for sitting down”) Review: AWESOME place (I sincerely have no idea why the other reviews are bad…. I think management may have changed and improved after the pandemic! But I’m not sure so don’t quote me on that!) Food: The motsunabe (intestine hotpot) was literally so freaking good. I used to live in Fukuoka where this dish originated, and the flavor is truly true to Kyushu and Fukuoka, it was close to the best I've had. The yakitori (grilled sticks ) and kushikatsu (fried sticks) had a platter option we ordered. For the yakitori I recommend tare (sauce), but there is also Shio (salt) option. The torikawa (chicken skin) was SO GOOD. For some reason they also had Korean food? Lol but the chijimi (scallion pancake) was SO good. Oh! And the cucumber 🥒 was great too, literally can't complain about any of the food except the French fries had too much seasoning on them haha But really if the fries were the worst thing then I call this a win 🥇 Service: In terms of service, there are mainly two staff running the tables so you might have to yell “sumimasen”a few extra times, they aren't forgetting about you on purpose or anything, they're just extremely busy so please be patient but persistent! Just kindly keep calling for them, they'll come to you! A smile goes a long way! 😄 Atmosphere: Lots of young people in 20s and 30s, Shimokitazawa is a bustling but chill place with lots of vintage shops and amazing music venues (I recommend RPM & soy-poy! I'm a soul/R&B myself musician in Tokyo (artist name: MayowaSensei ) so I love this area, sometimes people even do lives on the street! ) It was so delicious! I lived in Fukuoka prefecture for three years and fell in love with motsunabe, so when I came to this restaurant I felt nostalgic.I was glad that I had the real Hakata motsunabe taste. The cucumber, yakitori, and kushikatsu platter were all delicious. The staff were so kind! The staff was quite busy as there were only 2 of us, so we called out to them 2-3 times before coming to our table. I went there with two American friends who came on a trip, and they said, "It was really delicious! I want to eat it again." it's recommended!
