Kyoto, Japan｜吉鳥

I ate here a couple of nights ago - single diner. I loved it. It was quiet when I arrived - service was attentive and food made fresh. I tried a variety of small dishes ( a bit like tapas) and they were all great. Fried oysters, chicken livers, clam soup, peppers, and a stand out dish - the duck. When I had finished the restaurant was quite full with locals and some O/S visitors who were on a return visit. I really enjoyed this place - the food, although small portions, was great and I think the prices were reasonable.

Came to try a few different small plates and have a few beer & sake. I can‘t agree with the other reviews - I‘m a foreigner and do not speak any japanese at all - was still treated very kindly. The food was prepared immediately when ordering through the tablet (which has an english menu if you change the language), did not take long and tasted good. Yes, popcorn incl. cover charge are always served, but unless those 200¥/person bother you I can definitely recommend this Izakaya.
