Uji, Kyoto, Japan｜お台所 roji

This is an amazing izakaya that serves fantastic dishes on par with the best kaiseki restaurants in Kyoto. In fact, their course options are essentially a kaiseki style progression of dishes from zensai to the sashimi/grilled/boiled courses. There is a charm to the dishes here as they taste more homemade, yet they are still complex, utilizing the freshest ingredients. Their sashimi course for example offered the freshest fish devoid of any fishy taste and with textures that were so pleasant. The owner is extremely kind and so are the rest of his friendly and hardworking crew. We navigated the menu easily using the google translate camera but all the courses can be seen on their website too. If you have time to ask your hotel front desk to make a reservation and state what course you'd like, I'm sure they'll appreciate it, but I think it should be fine for you to just walk in too as many locals did that. All in all, a fantastic restaurant that I plan to return to my next trip to Kyoto.

It seems to be a popular restaurant, but it happened to be empty so I went in. There were many delicious Kyoto vegetable obanzai and Japanese sake options. The attachment had changed.
