Otsu, Shiga, Japan｜Maruki

I chanced upon this quaint, cosy Izakaya on my way to the train station in Sakamoto coming back frm Mt Hiei. As it was early I was the only customer. The owners were hospitable even though they couldn’t speak English. Menu is all-Japanese, but there were some pictures, so I muddled through with the help of Google translate and hoped for the best. Food was fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely come again if I’m in the area.

Good range of really nice food, run by a young couple. Enjoyed ourselves so much we went back two nights later.

This restaurant, Maruki, has tasty and innovative food. The roasted pumpkin, octopus and tomato salad, and tofu topped with ground beef are all wonderful. There is also good sashimi and creative desserts!
