Kyoto, Japan｜Akagakiya

Stumbled in here at 9pm on a rainy Saturday night after trying to walk into a half empty Hitomi, and this was the best meal of our 3 days in Kyoto. We had the duck, chicken karaage, grilled eggplant, beef wrapped asparagus, a chicken skin skewer, and a couple beers and everything was 🔥. One of the waiters spoke English well and they have an English menu which was a big help. Google translate could not make up or down for about 30% of the regular menu. We were the only foreigners in the place but it was a convivial atmosphere. Cash only. Will be telling all my friends about this one. Cannot recommend enough.

One of the best izakayas we visited on our trip, apparently we were lucky there was no queue when we arrived as there is usually one. Great atmosphere and fantastic food with lots of seasonal dishes. Sitting at the counter you get to watch the chefs at work which is fantastic!

English menu available. Staff was attentive and helpful in picking recommended items. The bonito Sushi was my favourite along with the braised duck breast! 3 sushi plates, 2 grilled plates, two sake orders, one beer. 9700yen
