Nara, Japan｜Kura

This is the quintessential Japanese experience that we wanted for our first night in Japan! The food here was phenomenal - so much so that we only remembered to take photos of the first and last dishes. The service was courteous and thoughtful as expected. Importantly, there is an English menu, and one of the staff members took the time to explain all the daily specials to us in English. Recommend to anyone who is in Nara!

The gentleman running the place was incredibly polite and his English was good. The food was sensational and the gentleman ran after us after we left to give us a few souvenirs. Highly recommend for a wholesome, traditional izakaya!

The owner and the staff were incredibly kind, humble and welcoming. The food is extremely reasonably priced and everything we had was delicious! Highly recommend the grilled scallops and the stewed chicken innards - both were absolutely delicious. The salt grilled chicken is simple, but perfect and very comforting. This wonderful restaurant and bar seems to attract lovely people as well, a Japanese couple next to us saw us asking about the food they ordered and they very generously let us try it. The lay-out of the bar allows for easy conversation between strangers and creates a very convivial atmosphere! The kind staff gave us postcards and green tea for free before we left as well. We were incredibly touched by their genuine warmth.
