Make it a top priority to book a table here for your visit in Kyoto. They accept reservations by mail two weeks in advance. Like most good restaurants in Kyoto, there are only a few seats at this foreigner-friendly place run by an extremely welcoming and charming couple. Furthermore, the food is great, not least the beef, and their homemade plum wine is delicious. The value for money is very high, and the personal and warm service is a lovely bonus.

My fiancé and I recently spent 2 weeks in Japan, and this was our favorite meal of the entire trip. We ordered set B with 150g of Waygu beef with Okoniyaki, grilled prawns, soft shelled crab, gyoza, and we ordered a side of mushrooms. The gyoza tasted so fresh and was a great starter. I personally am not the largest seafood person, but even I enjoyed the soft shelled crab, my fiancé loved it. Before trying their waygu, we tried getting a waygu skewer and waygu sushi in Osaka which were very dissapointing, and had me skeptical about waygu. The waygu prepared by Hideki was absolutely amazing. I am very happy we opted for the 150g (we also ended up getting another 100g it was delicious). Finally the mushrooms blew our minds. We debated ordering a second plate, but we were beyond stuffed already. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Kyoto, when we return to Japan we will definitely be returning - thank you Hideki, and Naoko for the amazing evening!

This was our first trip to Japan. We pent two weeks here and had a lot of great food. The experience at this small restaurant was by far the best experience and meal we had! It is run by and husband and wife couple who are very warm and sweet people. They make you feel at home. The food was amazing. Can’t wait to come back when we visit again! Okini!
