Wan Chai, Hong Kong｜Tak Yu Restaurant

Didn't plan to go here initially, but it turns out that it's just a stone throw away from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, so I came after attending morning Mass. Since it was breakfast time, the suggested menu, which is the 'home-style' fried rice, is not available yet. I ordered the spam & egg macaroni & a hot milk tea. The tea was great, thick & hot. Macaroni was great, too. The spam slice was huge. It's better with chilli, though. Then I decided that I needed condensed milk toast & and boy, was that the right decision! Bread was toasted nice & crispy, butter slices were thick & a glop of condensed milk on top! Finger-licking-good! They have an English menu & and the special of the day is scribbled on the wall in Chinese. The restaurant is air conditioned, and the location is great. The surroundings look quite hip but not very crowded.

My goto for local Hong Kong-style food or drinks like stir fried instant noodle with pork or beef slice, milk tea, breakfast and other lunch sets.

The signature fried rice deserves its name. It was savoury and rich, with a satisfying crunch from the deep fried fish sprinkled liberally on top.
