North Point, Hong Kong｜Hong Kong Canteen

This restaurant is VERY popular in the neighbourhood and with good reason. Competitive pricing, fairly efficient staff, excellent flavours for this type of cuisine, and good portions. It is busy, but NOT the type where you feel staff and other customers are pressuring you to eat as fast as possible and leave. Wide selection for breakfast and afternoon tea, and rotating options for daily lunch menu. Their buns and pastries are freshly baked next door. Pineapple buns and egg tarts are excellent. You will often see the egg tarts selling out before the next batch comes out (as of now and recently, three rounds at 12 noon, 2pm, 4pm). Customers vote with their feet: breakfast crowd is often busy, even more so on weekends with families. On weekdays you'll find a table but may need to share. Lunch is quite busy on weekdays. Every day you'll see folks for afternoon tea. If you prefer a quieter meal, would suggest aiming for late breakfast, or post-3.30pm afternoon tea.

I‘ve never eaten at the canteen, but their bakery honestly makes the best buns hands down!!! The egg tarts are also really good depending on which pastry chef is there.

Was very skeptical when we randomly decided to eat here because compared to the newer restaurants nearby, this place looked very plain. All words and number. No pictures. We ordered a Cantonese cafe classic: Baked Porkchop rice and black pepper beef spaghetti. Although the meat portions look small, it was definitely enough to satisfy us. Price and flavour and portions are all great.
