Causeway Bay, Hong Kong｜Man Fai Octopus Ball Noodles

All my cravings were satisfied by this hefty bowl of hor fun with handmade cuttlefish balls after a week of no solid foods after wisdom teeth surgery and now slowly easing back although the wound is still raw. A very big bowl for $50 The noodles are fresh and uniform with a great bite to them without being chewy. I easily mush them with my incisors. Along with the generous portion of noodles, there is also a nice bundle of seaweed offers a crunchy, refreshing, crisp texture. They are pretty well for their seaweed and it’s definitely very strong and fresh. Homemade cuttlefish balls are extremely tender and did not require any molar chewing. Each piece is unique in shape and they are generous with five plump balls. Of course the most important part of the dish is the soup; which is so spectacular I finished every last drop. Super flavorful and rich yet light and easy to down. Strong notes of cilantro and pepper for a very refreshing and nourishing bowl of fish soup. As always, I ate this with vinegar filled spoons to enhance the fish taste and add acidity. But they also have fish sauce and chilli oil available for more flavor. The restaurant is large but with a lot of tables so quite tight. I came at 6 and there were many vacant seats but started filling up very soon. Quick and tolerable service, food arrived within ten minutes. I shall be back to try their cuttlefish dishes.

Delicious cuttle fish ball noodles. You can tell they make their cuttlefish ball freshly as you can really taste the 'cuttlefish' in it. It's got a good texture. Also, it hasn't got the artificial flavour that you'd get from the usual store-bought cuttlefish ball. I would recommend you to add a touch of chilli sauce and fish sauce which elevates the noodles to a new level. Just slightly over $40 for a good bowl of noodles is quite a good bargain in Causeway Bay.

Haven’t visited for ages, still very yummy esp the balls and the seaweed soup. Going strong for decades
