Wan Chai, Hong Kong｜船記 Ship Kee

A big circular table style dining restaurant, Ship Kee is a great place to come for authentic Chinese comfort food. The prices reflect its popularity and quality ingredients - you get what you pay for as every dish is executed well. I particularly like the addition of the “Comfort Food Menu” - some classics that are executed well with no fuss. There’s a little bit of everything on the menu: from Dim Sum to spicy Chinese dishes to Claypot and barbecued meats. I tried a range and I wasn’t disappointed. The Chiu Chow Dumplings, Deep-Fried Dumplings, Steamed Chicken Bun were solid. The Abalone & Chicken fried rice & Spicy Celtuce were very good but the stand out was the Honey Glazed Barbecue Pork - nice chunky pieces with a slightly harder exterior, it’s not less juicy and the honey & fat just bring so much flavour.

Easy to miss or even ignore. Very good dim sum that is on a par with maxim's Palace but with a reservation system. About 20% more expensive though. The char siu is excellent and far better than the overrated Mott 32. Would come again.

Definitely my go-to place for claypot and BBQ pork. If you have not been here, you are missing out.
