More Comments at Google MapTried the Akamon Ramen after seeing various recommendations online to try it and it was every bit as good as the reviews claimed it was, plus it was an exceptional value getting such a large bowl for only ¥514. The queue to get get your food and the queue to pay is designed in such a way to make getting through fast and efficient which I appreciated as well.
I make an effort to try the cafeteria of every university I visit, and Tokyo’s is perhaps the best in the world. I like how they make proper food and don't exploit their students by making the school food either disgusting or expensive or both (*ahem* my home university). I ate here every day of my two months at todai and preferred Chuo over any outside restaurant
Let's be clear on this: you don't go to a university canteen for culinary delight and gourmet food, and this central canteen of Tokyo University is no exception. What makes is worth review stars is its no-nonsense way of offering a variety of dishes, some changing weekly for a reasonable price (for those who get University Co-op membership, there is an additional 10% discount. It is good value for money. Hot greeb tea is on the house. There are vegetarian and Halal options as well. If you enter there hungry, most probably you won't leave with an empty or discontent stomach!
