Kyoto, Japan｜Kyogoku Kaneyo

Visited this spot that was on the Bib Gourmand that specializes in unadon. The inside was nice, well air conditioned, and had a visual of fish and a small stream by the window seats. We ordered a small unadon topped with tamago, which the portion size I thought was huge. There was also a set option which was cheaper that included picked vegetables and a soup (miso or clear soup), but the unadon would be smaller. Service was quick and staff friendly.

I am a purist by heart. Seeing the old style recipe and shop in operation just shout this is the place to be. This is my repeat visit to this place since my last trip 4 years back. I still love the smokiness, just nice sauce taste and absolutely love the tamago. It’s my must go to place in Kyoto for Unagi. I don’t expect everyone to love it - after all Unagi taste is not for everyone.

The grilled eel was absolutely fantastic. Tastes great! The food presentation was top notch. Quality service, nice food and traditional decoration, it is worth to visit!
