Gyu-kaku is the largest chain of Yakiniku operators in Japan perhaps worldwide. It serves authentic Japanese grilled barbecue (Yakiniku) since 1997 and trusted. Somehow it even taste better/on par with regular Yakiniku restaurants. Absolutely perfect for dinner meal after a whole day of walking or Kinkaku-ju visit. There are plenty of dining options in area and Gyu-kaku is open till late (12pm). Fun DIY experience and take time to rest and saviour slow caramelization. Charcoal grills provides higher temperature heat than gas ones so umami tasty. Very different from US. Marinates here somehow more sweeter too, there's also a spicy version too. Order the tsukemono (pickles vegetables) to complement the palate. Clear cold buckwheat noodles cucumber soup was one of the best tasting and very refreshing with the rich meats. Service was very friendly, bid you goodbye afterwards but spoke little English. It was one of the better value waygu meals we had in japan and very memorable. Note: even though it is uses a ventilated barbecue systems to create a smoke-free environment, you do need to wash your clothes/hair afterwards as scent do stays. Majority locals (kids) usually orders all-you-can-eat for value. Hot tea was not refilled :P

Enjoyed Japanese BBQ at this restaurant. Excellent service and food. Highly recommended!
