Todays side dish is a lovely restaurant. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The variety of dishes from the set menu was abundant and they all tasted great. There were several native Kyoto dishes that I’ve never had too. One thing I would also like to call out is the attention to detail their team had. We were each given a plastic cover to store our masks while in the restaurant. None of the other restaurants even offered this, and it was such a nice touch to the overall experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Tonight’s Side Dish.

I wanted to treat my friend to Kyoto-style obanzai, but a popular restaurant in an old townhouse style was fully booked several days in advance, so I was finally able to make a reservation at this restaurant. The building looks like a new restaurant, but they also serve obanzai-like vegetable dishes, so I came here for the first time to give my friend a taste of the Kyoto atmosphere. This restaurant is located on the second floor of Yaoichi Honten, a high-class greengrocer. There is also a cute miscellaneous goods store on the same second floor, which is a feast for the eyes. The dishes are a little different, perhaps because Yaoichi's high-quality ingredients are used, with meaty vegetables and mushrooms, and very juicy fruits. I was especially surprised by the thickness and firm texture of the maitake mushrooms that accompanied the boiled fish. There is also a paid parking lot and a cafe nearby.
