Kyoto, Japan｜Takei

This meal was a highlight of our trip to Kyoto. We ordered three entrees because we wanted to try as much as we could, and everything was delightful. As many reviewers have mentioned, a vast amount of this spot’s charm can be attributed to its owner, who is sweet, funny, and an impressively efficient cook. We’ll be thinking fondly of her fried tofu and red hat until we visit again.

We had the most incredible meal at Takei. The sweetest Japanese lady who runs the restaurant helped us choose our food (was very accommodating for pescatarians), and made us the most delicious meal. It was the best tofu I have ever eaten and very inexpensive! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto!

We’ve stumbled into a very warm and cosy place! It’s a hidden gem~~ Friendly solo lady boss whipping up home cooked food. Thank you for the food!
