More Comments at Google MapAs the exterior of the restaurant looked quite old, I hesitated a little before going in. They say that you can't judge a book by its cover. I ordered a bowl of scrumptious katsudon (one size only, and it's equivalent to large serving) for only 650yen. The portion was generous and the food tasted better than the typical gyudon chain restaurant. I will definitely visit again.
🙏
The egg-topped katsudon at Retro Shokudo in the downtown shopping district looked so delicious that I had been interested in it for a long time, so I had a BM, but before I knew it, it had been picked up on social media and YouTube, and it seemed like it had become quite a famous restaurant. I visited the restaurant right after it opened, and all the tables were filled right away. The atmosphere of the shop is as if time has stopped, and it's amazing. There are still many retro restaurants like this in Osaka, including this one. The katsudon you are looking for is a traditional, filling katsudon with a mellow taste mixed with the egg yolk on top, making it just as delicious as you would imagine. The homemade cucumber and ginger pickles that I brought out myself were also delicious and went well with the mellow and rich katsudon. The quantity and taste are perfect, and the reasonable price of 650 yen is also great. Since the old lady is managing the kitchen by herself, the customers volunteer by going to the kitchen to relay their orders, return tableware, and take out their own tea and pickles.
