Nara, Japan｜Wakakusa Curry

We found this hidden gem in one of the small streets in Nara! We need to queue around 15-20 min to be seated. The curry rice is really awesome! The waygu beef curry rice is just on point, not spicy for people like me who cannot take spicy food. It’s flavourful with full of gravy, suitable for small kids. The add on egg omelette is so fluffy and delicious! The best curry rice I have ever tasted! 💯 Vegan and vegetarian options were available! My husband tried their vegetarian curry rice, it’s so delicious 🤤 You’ve got to taste this if you are around Nara! Highly recommended! Will definitely come back again!

Bottom line: of you are fond of curry, you will ENJOY this Japanese Curry restaurant, located in the middle of the covered-market, because the food is DELICIOUS. Easy to understand English menu are available, laying out vegetarian and vegan option, as well as detailed and clear alergy notices. We took a mixed dish with 4 different types of curry, and another mixed vegetarian dish. Both were VERY TASTY and SAVOURY! We left the plates clean... The dishes are sized for light lunch, and priced fairly accordingly. I wish I had an identical restaurant near home, would make it my go-to place.

The curry is delicious! The curry taste is different than the normal Japan curry taste. A must try when you are in Nara. Try their 4-in-1 curry to taste all their curries. The tonkatsu is delicious and crispy too. Vegetarian options are available. The curry spiciness level are all shown in the menu. English menu available too. There is nut oil provided on the table which adds a different taste to the curry. Iced water is also provided for free.
