Kyoto, Japan｜Nishiki Soya

Today we did the usual Nishiki Ichiba run, starting at the shrine. At some point the shops become less interesting, so it's tempting to just turn back and buy things we laid eyes on in the first half of the run. I'm glad we didn't and instead reached the end and stumbled on this excellent underrated restaurant. We ordered the yuba set meal. Delicious, particularly their recommended way to eat the yuba: first on its own with some dashi and fresh wasabi, but then together with the negi and the nori into the rice. What a great discovery!! The staff was friendly, the food delicious and the price reasonable. More people should know of this place: it was empty when we were there and it was lunch time.

Came here for lunch with no expectations and we were blown away. My friend ordered a soy milk hotpot set and I had the udon set (pictured). The food was delicious, service was impeccable and I'd definitely will come back again if I were to visit Nishiki market.

Really interesting dish. Didn’t know tofu could be so good. Very well plated as well and reasonable price
