Kyoto, Japan｜Koshihata Friend Park Matsubara

Discovering this Soba shop was like finding an Oasis in the desert. I discovered this shop while riding my road bike in the hills around Kyoto. After a nice climb from Arashiyama to the village of Mizuo, I sought a a bite to eat that would recharge my batteries with some high quality carbohydrates. A couple of local 'Obaachans' (elderly ladies) suggested that I ride just a few more kilometers up the mountain to have soba (buckwheat noodles) at 'Matsubara'. It was great advice! Matsubara serves hand made soba made from locally grown buckwheat. They make it right in front of you, which is interesting to watch, and it is absolutely delicious! They also have delicious tempura. Finally, the area is gorgeous, and the shop itself is nicely designed. It is both modern and traditional at once. Strongly recommended!

Friend Park Matsubara : This part is called " Friend Park Matsubara 「越畑フレンドパークまつばら」 ". They serve hand-made soba noodle dish at reasonable price. They also show you how soba ( buckwheet noodle ) is made and offer you some trial lesson of Soba-uchi ( kneeding soba to shape it into noodle ). They can offer large size by just adding 260 yen. Right across the street is this stand that you previoously saw the sign. They sell variooous kinds of fruits grown in this area at wholesale price. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide )
