5 star for the effort to take on Mediterranean food. Not the most authentic mostly due to the fact they don't use or enough of the staple Mediterranean ingredients. Hala sits more on the Taiwanese side as I'm sure most people can be pleased enough. First the gyros. I was disappointed but not surprised to see they use iceberg lettuce instead of the romaine. Most if not all proper gyros use hearty romaine lettuce. The sauce is also way off. Definitely not Tzatziki sauce, the signature sauce for all gryos or shawarma for all I know. The sauce should be tangy from the yogurt and lemon juice. Refreshing from the use of cucumber. Unique with a pinch of fresh dill. Hala offers mayo base sauce which I find it cheating. Last the hummus. I do appreciate it for being not overly garlicky. Still, hummus is a bit lack luster. It's missing the tang from the citrus, and the aroma from the Tahni. And it needs 20 seconds more or so on the food processor to get it to a less grainy, more smooth consistency. Sorry for the tough review. For my love of Mediterranean food. I hold high hopes for Hala to get better, be more authentically Greek.
