One of slavering Hainanese cuisines is their chicken rice poached chicken and seasoned rice, served with chili sauce and usually comes with cucumber garnishes. Ours today was sweet and sour chili sauce with Taiwanese cabbage. It was created by immigrants from Hainan province in southern China and adapted from the Hainanese dish Wenchang chicken. The side dish we had today was deep fried dumplings with the same sauce as well, the texture of which was quite attractive, crunchy outside but tender and juicy inside.
