We loved this place. This is exactly the type of store we look out for when we travel. This is what people call a ‘Traditional Taiwanese Sweet Doufu (Tofu) Pudding’ store. Traditional I gather in the way they make the dessert and what extras they add with it rather than the way they made their tofu which is a little different than in other place (either Taiwan or China/Hong Kong). For those to way this is different from Cantonese doufu; it really isn’t. All the usual suspects that some people would call “Cantonese style” i.e. in sweet ginger soup, is here. What is different, and why this has 5-stars, is that this store owns the soy bean farm. This is seemly a farm-direct-to-store family run outfit. They also say they specifically ground their soy beans slightly coarser than most which gives their tofu pudding added texture and I really like it. I am not usually a fan of tofu pudding in Hong Kong, most places lack flavour, texture or anything other than the sweetness of the sugar water. This tofu had a texture that was creamy and it tasted of beans, added with the soup and it’s an instant hit for me. Eating by the roadside was also a bonus. This is possibly as authentic as you can get meaning unlike in developed places like Hong Kong, London or similar, you dining experience is not engineered. You get what you see here and the tofu is good. Worth a specific visit? For me, that’s a yes.
To beat the heat, eat ancient bean curd (small bowl, 30% sugar) Business is good tasty
