Alishan Township, Chiayi County｜阿里山茶山美鄒部落廚房

Put simply, this was the best dining experience of my life. I have been fortunate enough to dine at some pricey (and quite often pretentious) restaurants around the world - including a few spots brandishing Michelin stars. However, this humble gem located deep in the heart of the Alishan Mountains betters all of them. Dining out under the stars, enjoying the best food and drink the region has to offer was an experience that will stay with me forever. The brilliant head chef brought us some amazing food, all of which is from the area and tethered to his proudly indigenous Taiwanese traditions. We tried local vegetables, freshly caught fish, rice and, my favourite, deer soup. The passion and pride all the staff rightly have in their heritage shines through in each dish. For anybody who is lucky enough to find themselves in this beautiful part of the world, I would absolutely recommend that they pay this restaurant a visit!!

Delicious restoring meal and such kind service. The hotpot with water cress and baked sweet potatoes - wow!! Much appreciated by us after a tough day of cycling. Thank you!
