I've been in Tainan for 2.5 months and this was one of the most satisfying late night meals I've had this trip. The 老闆 is really friendly and immediately came over to ask if I had come before and explain the "menu" -- the items on the left and with colorful tags are all 炸的 (fried) and the items without colorful tags and on the right are all boiled/soup (湯的). She also explained to me which ones were the favorites and what they taste like, which ones are traditional and which are desserts, etc. This is likely because I look like an obvious foreigner, but she did explain most of it in Chinese with a few key words in English. I ended up going with some of her recommendations, and maybe because I went really late (10:30pm) they gave me an additional bowl of spicy broth on the house. Fried mushrooms, tofu skin, and fries: 4/5. These will definitely be best if you eat there. Fries are not quite what I'd get in the US but maybe the best I've had in Tainan so far. 臭豆腐泡菜 ($70)：5/5. Crispy outside and soft flavorful inside, with a separate bowl of sauce, exactly how I remember it as a child. Pickled vegetables were really well prepared. Service and hospitality: 6/5 🌟🌟🌟😍 I will definitely be back soon :)
