Nagano, Japan｜Sobanomi

Very good soba. Not a huge wait compared to Uzuraya. Had both Uzuraya and this place and can’t say there’s a huge difference (I’m not an expert). Also, this place has a special menu item: 100% buckwheat soba, which Uzuraya does not have. If you’re wondering whether to wait 2+ hours for Uzuraya or go here instead? Just come here, get the 100% buckwheat soba dish and you won’t have missed anything. As I said, I went to both places one after another and can speak from experience. Came around 11.15 and waited 30 mins.

Delicious pit stop after our little hike from the Kagami Lake. Loved the Soba Zanmai with 3 dipping sauce — the walnut one was extremely tasty! The zoba were also cooked well and tasted fresh! we also enjoyed the fluffy soba cheesecake and soba tea. The lady who served us also presented an english menu which was so helpful and spoke some english too. We also tried the soba yu mixing it with our leftover sobatuyu. It was a cozy meal before waiting for our bus, nearby back to Nagano station! Arigato!

In Feb 2023 we got dropped off by the bus station further down the road and nothing was open for food or tourism. Fortunately we found a taxi cab driver who verified this place was still serving lunch and brought us here for a reasonable price. Food here was great. I really enjoyed the cold soba set w shrimp tempura and yummy pickled greens. This place is exactly at the top entrance to the cedar grove path.
