Mong Kok, Hong Kong｜Momiji Chaya

I was there around 2pm, so I might have avoided lunch crowds. I ordered the deluxe unagi meal and it was great. Comes with sides and a pot of shrimp soup. It's great on its own, or you can add it to your don for a different texture. The lemon beer is the perfect finish to the meal. Recommended.

I realized I wrote a review for 紅葉茶屋 aka Momiji-Chaya about four years ago when I was last in Hong Kong. Here is an update! We were shopping at T.O.P. This Is Our Place (shopping centre) this afternoon, and came across this Japanese-styled cafe on the 3rd floor again lol. I'd say the quality and the selection of the food is EVEN BETTER now (it was already pretty good the first time around!) The service is still very friendly; the space is still very relaxing and spacious - highly recommend this spot for catching up with friends! The main things that changed after covid-19 were that there are dividers between tables, and you order via QR code at your table, and pay at the register counter in the front after your meal. We ordered the Eel on rice with soup (where you pour the soup in), and Yuzu clam udon - both were very tasty. The matcha latte with ice cream and mochi was creamy and delicious, and the hot hoji tea was also a nice choice if you want something light but strong.

An excellent place for genuine Japanese taste, with reasonable place and high quality of food. Environment is excellent also.
