Da’an District, Taipei City｜Kaifun

I was a lone customer visiting the famous Kaifun on her last night in Taipei. I was a little nervous because it was just myself dining, so was hoping they could maybe squeeze me at the counter or perhaps I’d just have to order takeout to eat in the food court… BUT as soon as I arrived, the super sweet tall host with glasses greeted me warmly, and when I told him I just needed a table for 1, he cheerfully welcomed me and sat me right at a front table! A table meant for 4 guests, but he allowed me to sit there. Yes it was on the early side of dinner service, but to be made to feel comfortable about dining alone and most importantly WELCOME… meant a lot to me. I was hungry - I ordered the mapo tofu, the pork and shrimp fried rice, sautéed seasonal green beans, and a side of marinated pickled cucumbers. I was in heaven. Of course I couldn’t finish everything so I ate as much as I could (almost half!) and they wrapped the rest for me in a really nice to go bag. When setting the bill, the same host took care of me and I told him it was my last night in Taipei. After I signed the check, he grabbed another cute little Kaifun pen from the holder and gave it to me with a wink as a souvenir. A small gesture, but it really warmed my heart! I was so touched and really happy. I was so nervous and feeling weird about dining alone, but this really nice Kaifun associate made my experience so memorable and fun. THANK YOU!! I can’t wait to come back next time I’m in Taipei. You made my last meal here so special.

This restauant serves Sichuan style cuisine but don't get discouraged if it's spicy cause you can ask the servers to lessen the spice of the dishes. The portions are good for eating with family and friends. From what I heard, the taste is authentic and is a good representation of Sichuan cuisine. Foreign and local credit cards are available as medium of payment although cash is always accepted. You can ask for the English menu but the menu already has photos too so you know what to expect.

Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing experience. Our go to place for Sichuan food. We ordered our usual. Fried egg with lots of chili, steam pork belly with salted vegetable and fried chicken with plum sauce. Great place for couples, family and business.
