This is mostly frequented by locals. We stumbled upon it by accident. They don't speak English, but you can order using pictures. Some of the best Soba we've had this trip!

This place is a little hard to find, but it is VERY authentic, and worth the search if you like cheap and AMAZING food. This is a family-run restaurant. Depending on the time of day (especially from 12:00-2:00), you may have to share a table, or wait outside. This is not a tourist center, and you will not be showered with sweet services. It is a small space, so don't come with your luggage. They make their living off of locals and people working in the area who come here almost every day, but they will be happy to serve you too. The soba is highly recommended, but they have many other basic items, such as donburi (beef or chicken over rice), udon, and more. I usually order the tanin donburi (beef with egg over rice), which is simmered in a smokey dashi broth. Lunch comes with tsukemono pickles, a surprisingly delectable clear soup, and outstandingly wonderful hot Japanese tea. Hands down, this is my favorite place to eat in Umeda.
