More Comments at Google MapMine and partner’s favorite sushi place in our entire trip to Japan! Unassuming family run business with top-notch fish quality and freshness. With how intimate the restaurant and the dining experience was, it almost felt like we were getting an omakase chef’s table experience at a fraction of the price! Super friendly chef—he introduced all the fish in the platter and showed us his stock with every one of them. The best quality uni & tuna that we had all around Kyoto & Tokyo. We spent a good amount of money here—but that’s only because we couldn’t stop eating!
Great experience at this small family run restaurant. It is small, it seems part of the couples home where the kitchen is the main house kitchen and the there's space for two at the counters. Maybe more if the dining table is utilized, but when we're there the wife was watching TV at that table. We went on a weekday evening and there was no wait. The owner was really kind and has been perfecting sushi for many decades. You will likely need Google translate, but the couple tries their best to understand with pointing as well and there is a limited English menu. The sushi was superb, fresh, and overall some of the best I had in Japan. It was a really intimate experience to watch him prepare sushi, just me and my girlfriend, in their home. The chef even walked us out and gave us instructions to the train station. I would highly recommend this place for small parties and will be back next time we're in Kyoto.
Unbelievable sushi, unbelievable people. The guy has been making sushi for 50 years and gets the fish fresh everyday from a local market. The place itself is the family home so the restaurant is essentially their kitchen with few seats. Food is delicious (I got the platter) and in good portions. I left my glasses there at the end of the meal and the guy cycled around looking for me to give them back. Absolute hero, couldn't recommend it enough. Ichiban.
