Kyoto, Japan｜Ryoriya Otaya

One of the best Kyoto-style meals we had in Kyoto. Very accomplished chef serving local food in an intimate setting. Very friendly service, including to us who had very limited Japanese speaking skills. The front of house is especially friendly and very knowledgeable herself. She’s also a marathon runner! The food is “new-style” Kyoto food, with an emphasis on seasonal vegetables and produce. We were the last to finish and chef graciously spoke about his cuisine and Kyoto with us. We had a fantastic time and would recommend anyone who is interested in Kyoto food and an open mind to try to book here. We booked via a Japanese website.

We chose the "light" menu, but it was more than enough, and simply fantastic. They were also kind to adjust to my own preferences (I had told them beforehand that I cannot eat shellfish). Lovely atmosphere. Please note that you'd better book in advance, and look for the place with a picture of the outer door (non-japanese speakers, we passed by several times before understanding that it was "our" restaurant)

What a lovely izakaya in central heart of kyoto! It worth to the people who really understand Kyoto dishes and Japanese sake. The whole course had signature kyoto flavor, and the waitress was kindly service at all. We enjoyed the whole night fun time, and can't wait to come back anymore.
