We had the lunch box set which was very nice - exactly what we were looking for. I tried the the local beer, Hanamachi, which was a little stronger in flavor than Asahi. It was a nice change. The place is very tradional, spotless and peaceful with koto music playing in the background. Western table and chairs, as well as, tatami mat seating are available. Private rooms can also be reserved. The service was excellent and they have a menu in English. I have no idea why the average rating was below 4, it definitely deserves a 5 based on my years of experience in Japan.

If you are in this area, this is unmissable. A truly undiscovered gem.

I used it with my family for dinner. Both the exterior and interior of the shop have a wonderful appearance of Kyomachiya, and you can fully enjoy the atmosphere of a trip to Kyoto. The sunken kotatsu underfoot is warm and comfortable. As for the food, I received a set meal, but first of all, I cheered at the excitement before and after opening the lid of the tub. It looked gorgeous, it was fun to decide what to eat, and the taste was elegant and everything was delicious. Chestnut rice, steamed egg custard, and especially soup stock are the best. It was a pleasant time with the warm hospitality of the owner and the shop staff. If I go to Kyoto next time, I will use it again.
