More Comments at Google MapStunning experience. We ate inside Tenryu-ji temple, sitting on tatami mats. The course was composed of many different vegan plates, each of them unique and with very interesting flavours. We booked quite a bit in advance through their website, which is definitely recommended.
Refreshing and filling was my thought as I dined here, and the philosophy of Zen cuisine becomes apparent. I had booked via their website as I was going during peak season and sure enough they were at capacity/not accepting walk-ins on the day I went. They have tiny low seats, which I assume are for diners with very bad knees, but I didn'tsee anyone use them. I would definitely visit again if the opportunity arises.
My husband and I tried shojin ryori (Zen vegetarian cuisine) for the first time. I don’t think I have ever tasted vegetables cooked so simply that tasted so fresh and so delicious. Definitely understand why it is on the Michelin guide. We tried the basic course , the autumn seasonal dishes were amazing. You can find their lunch courses on their websites. Make sure to book 3 days in advance as slots fill out fast.
